Easy Steps To Make Pongal
STEP 1: மங்களகரமா let’s start by melting the Jaggery.
To melt the jaggery, add water to a pot and add jaggery to it. Once the jaggery dissolves and thickens, turn off the heat and keep it aside.
STEP 2: The Protein Preparation
To a pan, add moong dal, roast it for 2 minutes on medium heat and keep it aside.
Take another pan, add a generous amount of ghee (Emphasis on the word ‘generous’) and roast the cashews & raisins with ghee and keep it aside.
STEP 3: The Main Magic
Add water to a Kadai and let it boil. While boiling, add the washed raw rice (yeah..forgot to mention earlier. Wash your rice & keep it ready) and roasted moong dal and cook until they are mushy.
Once it turns mushy, add boiled and cooled milk and continue to cook.
STEP 4: The Final Touch!
Strain the jaggery syrup into the rice mixture and mix well.
Once done mixing the syrup, add cardamom powder, roasted cashew nuts, roasted raisins, and ghee, and mix well.
Your tasty and traditional Sakkarai Pongal is ready!
